Pat McGarry

Player Profile

Position:
Assistant Coach

Experience:
Third Season

Alma Mater:
Benedictine (2002)

Throws coach Pat McGarry begins his third season with the Ramblers' track and field programs. McGarry was previously responsible for coaching both the men and women throwers at UIC for three seasons. Last season, Jordan Rohlfing posted impressive marks as a freshman, most notably in the indoor weight throw (41-08.75) and outdoor hammer throw (128-11), both of which rank her second in school history.

During the 2006-07 season, Erik Hernandez became Loyola's record holder in the indoor weight throw (53-4.25) and ranks second in the indoor shot put (53-4.25), outdoor shot put (54-4) and outdoor hammer throw (157-08).

McGarry's supervision helped the UIC throwers set nine new school records in the women's weight throw, women's hammer throw (five times), women's shot put, and men's discus (twice). All three of UIC's men's hammer throwers placed among the top six at the 2005 Horizon League Outdoor Championships. Before his stint at UIC, McGarry served as assistant track and field coach at his alma mater, Benedictine University during the 2002-03 season.

The 2002 graduate of Benedictine lettered for four years in both track and field and football. McGarry was captain of the men's track and field team during his senior season and a three-time MVP as well as a three-year starter on the Eagle football team as an offensive lineman and tight end.
