Men's Soccer Hands Oral Roberts a Shutout
Sept. 2, 2007 Memphis, Tenn. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team defeated Oral Roberts 1-0 Sunday afternoon in the second round of the Memphis Diadora Tournament. The Cardinals improved to 1-1 on the season and finish second in the Memphis Diadora Tournament. "It was a very good game for us defensively," said head coach Ken Lolla. "It was a good team effort from the defensive standpoint because we were able to limit their opportunities. We just wanted to keep wearing them down so that we could get in a scoring position and that is what happened." The first half finished in a scoreless tie. The Cardinals finished with a 7-4 shot advantage in the first half. Louisville finished with three shots on goal while Oral Roberts finished with two in the half. The Cardinals found themselves in scoring position in the second half. Phil Edington's header was blocked and then Aaron Clapham's shot was blocked as well. Freshman Austin Berry was able to collect the loose ball to find the net in the 70th minute. Louisville finished the game with a 21-5 shot advantage. The Cardinal defense held the Eagles to just one shot in the second half. Sophomore keeper David Simolike finished the game with two saves and his first shutout of the season. The Eagles' keeper Andrew Techanchuk finished with six saves. The Cardinals will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 6 as they travel to Lexington to face the Kentucky Wildcats at 7:00 p.m.
