Men's Golf Takes Second At Crowne Plaza Colonial

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Loyola men's golf team fell three strokes short of its bid to repeat as champions at the Crowne Plaza Colonial in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Tuesday afternoon. The Greyhounds, with three players posting a tournament score of 147, shot a 300 on Tuesday to finish with a 595. St. Bonaventure, with a 36-hole score of 592 won the tournament while third-place Cincinnati finished five strokes back of Loyola.

Sophomore Michael Mulieri, who led the field with 11 birdies, posted a one-over 73 to finish three stokes over par (147). Sophomore Blake Furgerson shot identical rounds of 74 and 73 while senior captain Will Shriver ended the tournament with rounds of 71-76. The threesome finished tied for sixth overall.

Juniors Matt Bassler and Chris Derby finished 22nd and 39th in the individual standings. Bassler registered a 78 on Tuesday while Derby posted an 80 in his final round.

The Greyhounds, who now have one tournament championship and two runner-up finishes in five tournaments this fall, close out the fall slate at the Charleston Southern Invitational in Charleston, South Carolina on Monday-Tuesday, October 30-31.
