Will Shriver Claims Medalist Honors As Men's Golf Takes Second At MAAC Championships

Buena Vista, Fla. - Senior captain Will Shriver won the individual MAAC Championship while Loyola placed second overall at the conference tournament in Buena Vista, Fla. on Sunday afternoon. Shriver posted a three-day score of 214, while the Greyhounds registered a 903 in their runner-up finish.

Shriver scored rounds of 68, 72 and 74 and after 54 holes was tied with Bryan Bigley from Siena to force a sudden death playoff. Shriver won the McLeod Award (give to the MAAC medalist) after two playoff holes to close his brilliant college career on top.

Junior Chris Derby, who scored a three-round 231, fired a 74 for the Greyhounds on Sunday. Classmate Matt Bassler closed the tournament with a 79 and finished eight overall with a three-day score of 225.

Sophomore Michael Mulieri ended the championships with a 233, while Nick Brassill posted a 259 in the final tournament of the season.

Siena won the championship with a team score of 895, while Niagara rounded out the top three. The Greyhounds end their 2006-07 campaign with three team titles and four runner-up finishes. Loyola entered the spring with a No. 2 regional ranking - its highest ever after fall play.
