Freshman Rex Brothers improved to 3-1 on the season

Bisons pounce on LSU 10-7 for back-to-back wins

Bisons' bats came alive on Saturday, March 3, in a 10-7 victory against LSU, for their sixth consecutive win.

In game two, it was the Bisons who struck first. Casey Bond led off the contest with a single to center. Bolden followed with a bunt single to put runners on first and second with no outs. Caleb Joseph would bring both runners home on a two run double to left center.

The Bisons would add four more in the second to break open a 6-0 lead. The big hit would once again be a two-run double off the bat of Joseph. Ryan Wilkins would also add a two-run double in the inning.

However, LSU got their bats going in the bottom of the inning, scoring three runs on a homer by Sean Ochinko.

The Bisons got two of the runs back in the third on an RBI single by Bolden.

But the Tigers never backed down, scoring two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to bring the score to 8-7.

The Bisons would add a run in eighth when Bond scored on a wild pitch, and another in the ninth on an RBI single by Branden Cadavid.

Bisons starter, left-hander Rex Brothers, earned the win to bring his record to 3-1. In six innings, he gave up five runs, four earned, while striking out six.

Charles Williams relieved Brothers in the seventh and pitched one inning, giving up two runs.

Right-hander Taylor Merry, closed out the game for the Bisons, throwing two scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and earning his fourth save of the season.

Joseph led the Bisons on offense with two hits and four RBIs. Bond led the team in hits with three.

With the series win, the Bisons became the first team since Kansas in February, 2003, to beat LSU in a non-conference series in Alex Box Stadium.

"Coach Forehand has done a good job turning the program around," Merry said. "We are really on a roll right now. Our bats have really gotten going, our pitching has been solid, and we have been playing well as a team.

"We may have won today, but the series is not over. We still have to go out tomorrow, and continue to play good baseball. If we do that, there is no reason we can not leave here with another win."

Senior right-hander Matt Schnelly is scheduled to take the mound for the Bisons in the series finale tomorrow, Sunday, March 4. In 18 innings this season, Schnelly is 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA. He has struck out 15.
