March 28, 2004 EAST PEORIA, Ill.-- - Lewis' fifth and final game of the Great Lakes Region Showdown was cancelled due to weather in East Peoria. The Flyers made it to the fourth inning against Wayne State, but rain halted play before the game was official. Wayne State built a 5-0 lead in the first three innings, but Lewis mounted a comeback in the top of the fourth inning. Senior Crystal Bowen laced a three-run triple off the center field fence to cut the lead to 5-3. With one out and Bowen on third, the steady rain was too much and officials halted play. Playing against the best teams from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Lewis finished 3-1 at the tournament. The Flyers, members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, helped the GLVC win the region challenge between the two leagues. The GLVC wound up one game ahead of the GLIAC with a 22-21 record during the tournament. The deciding game for the GLVC was a 3-0 victory by Wisconsin-Parkside over Ashland that was the only game in the 1 p.m. starting group to reach five innings. |
