ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -
The
Lewis
University
softball team was picked to finish third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference,
according to the preseason poll released Friday afternoon.
Lewis
received 118 points as voted by the GLVC coaches to earn the third position.
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville was picked to win the league title,
and
Northern
Kentucky
University
landed in the second spot. The Cougars received 139 points with seven
first-place votes, while the defending GLVC champion Norse collected 127 points
and four first-place votes.
The
Flyers posted a 29-22 overall record last season and finished fourth in the GLVC
with a 12-8 conference mark. Lewis last won the GLVC title in 2004. All-America
first team selection
Robin Martz, the GLVC Player of the Year, returns for her
senior season with the Flyers in 2006.
