HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.--The Lewis University women's soccer team played even with No. 23 Northern Kentucky for 58 minutes before the Norse broke through with the eventual game winner. Lewis (4-6-1, 1-2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference) played NKU (6-2, 4-1 GLVC) to a scoreless first half. The Flyers' Lindsay Frederick turned away three shots in the period, to help keep Lewis within striking distance. NKU cracked the scoreboard at 47:06 when Kristen Votapek scored on a rebound in front of the goal. Lewis answered in lightning-quick fashion when freshman Heather Ywaniw scored 19 seconds later at 47:25. Fellow freshman Sarah Ybarra earned the assist on Ywaniw's second goal of the season. The Norse tallied the game winner at 57:49 and then added a pair of insurance goals at 62:58 and 68:18. Frederick finished the game with six saves, while NKU had 10 shots on goal compared to Lewis' one. The Flyers will look to draw back to .500 in the conference when it travels to Bellarmine University (5-4, 3-2 GLVC) for a match on Sunday, Sept. 25. Game time is 1 p.m. |
