Dec. 27, 2004 INDIANAPOLIS - Lewis University sophomore Erin Cox was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Co-Player of the Week Dec. 27. Cox, a 6-2 post, was selected to the all-tournament team at the Gannon University Avalon Classic after leading the Flyers to victories over St. Vincent (Pa.) and Gannon. She averaged 16.0 points and 8.5 rebounds while shooting 53.8 percent from the field in the two wins. Cox began the week scoring a career-high 18-points along with six rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots in just 24 minutes of action as Lewis defeated St. Vincent (Pa.), 89-57. She also recorded career highs of eight made field goals and 13 field goal attempts. She came back the next night to score 14 points and grab a career-high 11 rebounds to help Lewis win the Avalon Classic title by defeating host and GLIAC-rival Gannon (now 8-2), 73-66. This is the first time in Cox' career that she has been named conference Player of the Week. Cox is the second Lewis player to earn the award this season; fellow sophomore Darcee Schmidt claimed the honor Dec. 6. Cox is also the fifth different Lewis player to earn the award in the past two seasons. Cox shared the award with Indianapolis' Erin Moran. Moran scored 46 points (23.0 ppg), hit 20-30 field goals (66.7 percent), 5-9 three's (55.6 percent), grabbed 13 rebounds (6.5) and three assists (1.5) in leading Indianapolis to a 2-0 week. |
