Aug. 22, 2007 ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Former Lewis University standout Mary Moskal has earned distinction as one of the 30 remaining candidates for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Award as announced by the NCAA. She is one of ten Division II student-athletes selected from over 120 conference nominations and will be invited to attend the 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year awards dinner to be held Saturday, October 27, in Indianapolis. The NCAA will narrow the nominees to nine finalists before naming the 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year at the event. Moskal, a senior from Cherry Valley, Illinois, helped guide the Flyers' to the school's first GLVC Championship in women's basketball in 22 years this past season and was named Most Outstanding Player at the 2007 GLVC Basketball Tournament. The ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America First Team selection maintained a 3.96 GPA while earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Moskal made the Dean's List in all eight semesters at Lewis, is a four-time Academic All-GLVC recipient and a three-time GLVC Scholar Athlete of the Year. In addition to her excellence in the classroom, Moskal has participated in the Walk for the Cure - Cystic Fybrosis Walk, the Take Back the Night Walk for battered women, is a Night Ministry volunteer and has served as a middle school volunteer basketball coach. She spoke at the Illinois Association of College Admission Counselors 2006 Annual Conference and is a member of the Tri Beta biology honor society, American Chemical Society and the Delta Epsilon Sigma National Catholic Honor's Society. Moskal is a three-time All-GLVC selection in basketball. She was named to the All-GLVC First Team as a junior and senior and was the 2005-06 GLVC Player of the Year. She is a three-time Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region selection and was named Kodak/WBCA All-America honorable mention last season. Moskal was also named the 2007 GLVC Richard F. Scharf Paragon Award recipient and a recipient of a prestigious NCAA postgraduate scholarship. The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership. |
