Feb. 14, 2005 INDIANAPOLIS - Lewis University junior Shante Glenn was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week February 14. Glenn, a 5-5 guard, claimed the award for the third time in her career after averaging 25.5 points on 65.5 percent field goal shooting to lead the Flyer women's basketball team to critical road victories over Missouri-St. Louis and Southern Indiana. Glenn began the week by scoring 21 points on 9 of 14 shooting and collecting seven assists as Lewis raced past UMSL, 78-48 (Feb. 10). Glenn came back on Saturday to pour in a career-high 30 points on 10 of 15 shooting as Lewis registered a thrilling 72-69 triumph at USI. She hit the eventual game-winning jumper with 28 seconds remaining and added two free throws with 12 seconds left to ensure the victory. This is the fourth time this season that a Lewis player has earned the GLVC Player of the Week award. Sophomores Darcee Schmidt (Dec. 6), Erin Cox (Dec. 27) and Mary Moskal (Jan. 24) have each earned the honor as well. Lewis has won four straight games and seven of its last eight to improve to 14-9 overall and 11-5 in the GLVC. The Flyers are tied for third in the conference, one-half game behind second-place Wisconsin-Parkside. |
