Career Highs Abound as Flyers Rout St Vincent (Pa.)

Dec. 20, 2004

Box Score

ERIE, Pa. - Sophomore Erin Cox and senior Chelsea Francik posted career scoring highs and led a group of six Flyers who scored at least ten points in an 89-57 rout of St. Vincent (Pa.) at the Avalon Classic hosted by Gannon University.

The Flyer interior had its way with St. Vincent as Lewis' pair of 6-foot posts combined for 35 points and 12 rebounds.

The 6-2 Cox netted a career-high 18 points on career highs of eight field goals made and 13 field goals attempted. She also tied her career high with six rebounds. Meanwhile, Francik, 6-1, had career highs of 17 points and seven field goals made. Francik was 7-of-7 from the field and pulled down six rebounds.

Four other Lewis players who scored in double digits complemented the post duo. Sophomore Mary Moskal recorded the second double double of her career with 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds; sophomore Darcee Schmidt and senior Becca Grappin added 12 points each; and junior Shante Glenn had 10 points and a game-high eight assists.

Lewis (5-5) raced out to a 40-26 halftime lead and then outscored St Vincent (3-9) 49-31 in the second half. The Flyers blistered the nets at a 56.5 percent clip (39-of-69), including a 60.6 percent performance in the second half.

Much of the team's scoring could be attributed to easy transition baskets as it scored 32 fast break points. In addition, Lewis tallied 58 points in the paint.

The Flyers will face tournament host Gannon (8-1) Tuesday night at 8 p.m. (EST) for the tournament title. Gannon beat Ohio Valley 82-44 in the other tournament game.
