Pickering Signs NLI to Play Volleyball at Lewis

May 10, 2005

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.--Lewis head coach Dan Friend announced that Drew Pickering (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa West H.S.) has signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball at Lewis.

Pickering, a 5-11, 155-pound outside hitter, has earned four varsity letters in volleyball. As a senior, he was named all-conference and all-state first team after leading his team in digs and leading the state in kills.

Pickering tallied 425 kills, 118 digs and 40 blocks and posted a .387 hitting percentage during his senior campaign. He helped lead his team to the state tournament for the first time since 1978 where Wauwatosa West advanced to the state semifinals.

As a junior, Pickering was named all-conference second team, while as a sophomore he was all-conference honorable mention.

Pickering has spent the past four seasons of his club career playing for Southwest Volleyball Club. He helped lead the squad to the 2003 and 2004 national tournaments.

Lewis finished its season 17-14 overall and 10-6 in the MIVA. The team tied for third in the conference and was ranked in the AVCA Top 15 for most of the season.
