Jared Dayton

Three Flyers Selected To All-MIVA Team

April 20, 2007

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University outside hitters Jared Dayton and Drew Pickering and middle blocker Billy Sahagian have been selected to the 2007 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association All-Conference team, as voted on by the league's head coaches.

Dayton, a senior with junior eligibility and an All-MIVA second-team selection in 2005, was selected to the All-MIVA first team, becoming the first Flyer to make the first team since the 2005 season. Dayton finished the regular season ranked fourth in the conference in kills (4.18) and points per game (4.71). He led Lewis with 422 kills, marking a third straight season with an increased kill total. Dayton is just 52 kills shy of 1,000 for his career.

Pickering, a sophomore, made the All-MIVA second team for a second consecutive season. In 2007, Pickering led the conference with 54 aces (0.53 per game) and set a Lewis rally-scoring era, single-season record. He also finished second on the team in kills (304) and digs (144).

Sahagian, a sophomore, was selected to the All-MIVA second team for the first time in his career. In 2007, Sahagian became the first Flyer to hit over .400 since the 2004 season. He totaled 163 kills in 295 attempts for a .417 hitting percentage, a mark which ranked sixth in the conference. Sahagian also ranked second on the team in total blocks (90) and sixth in the conference in blocks per game (1.14).

The Flyers begin postseason play on Saturday when they face Ball State in a MIVA quarterfinal match at 7:30 pm.
