ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Alex Vigansky tallied a team-high 10 kills, but the Lewis Flyers fell to NAIA No. 1 California Baptist 3-0 (30-24, 32-30, 30-22), Saturday night at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers dropped to 5-6, while the Lancers improved to 7-6 for the season. Vigansky hit .471 for the match and also recorded one block. David Kelnhofer (nine kills) and Mykolai Zerebeckyj (nine kills) were the other leading attackers for Lewis. Nick Perakes added a match-high 12 digs. The Flyers best effort came in game two, as a Pickering kill capped a rally that saw Lewis turn a 25-21 deficit into a 26-26 tie. The score went to 30-30 before two Flyers' errors gave the Lancers the win. The first game was tied 13-13 before a three-point spurt put the Lancers out in front for good, and Lewis was never able to recover from an 18-9 hole in the third game. Shamsu Awudu led the Lancers with match highs in kills (18) and hitting percentage (.783). Seidu Ajanako also recorded double digits in kills with 11, and Urs Gunthor added eight. The Lancers out-hit the Flyers .422 to .234, and they held the edge in blocks, 5-2. The Flyers play next at Loyola Chicago, Tuesday at 7 pm. |
