Oct. 12, 2004 ROMEOVILLE - A win over Quincy and a tie with Southern Illinois Edwardsville last week propelled the Lewis University men's soccer team back into the top 10 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America national poll. The Flyers (11-1-2) moved up three places to No. 9 and are one of four nationally ranked Great Lakes Valley Conference teams, joining No. 5 SIU Edwardsville, No. 16 Wisconsin-Parkside and No. 24 Northern Kentucky. Seattle is the nation's top-ranked team, followed by Carson-Newman (Tenn.), Southern Connecticut State, North Carolina-Pembroke, SIU Edwardsville, Dowling (N.Y.), Barry (Fla.), Fort Lewis (Colo.), Lewis and Clayton State (Ga.). The top four teams in the Great Lakes Region retained their positions. SIU Edwardsville is No. 1, Lewis and Wisconsin-Parkside are tied at No. 2 and Northern Kentucky is No. 4. Mercyhurst (Pa.), Quincy, Truman State (Mo.), Northwood (Mich.), Ashland (Ohio) and Indianapolis round out the region ranking. Lewis plays its final two regular-season home games this weekend, hosting Southern Indiana Friday and Missouri-St. Louis Sunday. Both games start at noon. |
