Sept. 20, 2006 ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Boosted by a 1-0 victory over Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Sunday, the Lewis University men's soccer team has jumped to No. 13 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II national poll. Lewis was tied for 15th nationally two weeks ago before dropping out of the rankings following its only loss of the season. The Flyers, 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, are tied with Wisconsin-Parkside for second place in the league behind Drury. Head coach Evan Fiffles' team also made a big leap in the Great Lakes Region, vaulting from No. 5 to No. 2 behind Drury. SIU Edwardsville is No. 3, followed by Wisconsin-Parkside, Truman State, Mercyhurst, Northwood, Missouri-Rolla, Northern Kentucky and Gannon. Other nationally ranked GLVC teams are Drury (No. 6), SIU Edwardsville (No. 21) and Wisconsin-Parkside (No. 25). The Flyers play at Missouri-Rolla on Friday and at Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday in a pair of GLVC contests. |
