Sept. 14, 2004 ROMEOVILLE - The Lewis University men's soccer team moved up two spots to No. 3 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II national poll. A pair of 1-0 victories over Great Lakes Region rivals Truman State and Rockhurst last weekend lifted the Flyers' record to 6-0-0. Lewis has allowed just four goals this season and has shut out three of its last four opponents. The Flyers retained the No. 1 Great Lakes Region ranking and are followed by Mercyhurst (Pa.), Northern Kentucky, Wisconsin-Parkside, Southern Illinois Edwardsville, Truman State (Mo.), Northwood (Mich.), Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) and Bellarmine (Ky.). Incarnate Word (Texas) is No. 1 and Dowling (N.Y.) is No. 2 in the national poll. Carson-Newman (Tenn.), North Carolina-Pembroke, Seattle, Massachusetts-Lowell, Montevallo (Ala.), Nova Southeastern (Fla.) and Midwestern State (Texas) follow Lewis and round out the top 10. Great Lakes Region teams Mercyhurst and Northern Kentucky and ranked 11th and tied for 18th, respectively. The Flyers begin Great Lakes Valley Conference action this weekend, traveling to Bellarmine on Friday and to Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday. Lewis is the defending GLVC champion. |
