ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Another outstanding defensive effort and goals by Cory Mastey and Tim Vance lifted the Lewis University men's soccer team to a 2-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Quincy on Friday. The Flyers (6-1, 4-1 GLVC) limited the Hawks (1-6, 1-4 GLVC) to just nine total shots and two shots on goal. Meanwhile, Lewis piled up 23 total shots and received nine shots on goal from eight different players. Mastey's team-leading fifth goal of the season, assisted by Lucas Sabedra, gave Lewis a 1-0 lead at the 11:45 mark. Vance, with assists from Jorge De Jesus and Kipp Cartwright, tallied his first collegiate goal at 82:50 to provide insurance. Lewis goalkeeper Anthony Szymel made two saves, while Quincy netminder Kyle Dillman collected seven saves. The Flyers host Southern Illinois Edwardsville, the No. 13-ranked team in NCAA Division II, in a GLVC showdown Sunday at noon. |
