ERIE, Pa. - Cathal Brady scored the only goal of the game in the 80th minute, and the Lewis defense did the rest Sunday in a 1-0 non-conference win over Mercyhurst. Brady's goal, his second of the season, came at 79:19 with an assist from John Solberg. The Flyers (2-1) turned in a gritty defensive performance. Mercyhurst's 13 second-half shots included five shots on goal, but Lewis netminder Brian Byrne rejected them all and finished the game with eight saves in his first collegiate contest. Lewis, tied for 17th nationally in NCAA Division II, returns home to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play Friday at 2:30 p.m. against new league member Drury. That contest begins a three-game home stand that also features GLVC opponents Rockhurst (Sunday, 2:30 p.m.) and archrival Wisconsin-Parkside (Sept. 15, 4 p.m.). |
