EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Cathal Brady's two goals - one early, one late - gave third-seeded Lewis a 2-1 win over second-seeded Southern Indiana Friday in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Soccer Championship semifinals. The Flyers (11-5-2), winners in nine of their last 10 games, will face defending champion and tournament host Southern Illinois Edwardsville (16-2) in the conference title game Sunday at noon. A 4-0 semifinal winner over Quincy, SIUE is ranked 10th nationally in NCAA Division II and has won 15 consecutive games, including a 2-0 victory over Lewis Oct. 27 that gave the Cougars a 10-0 GLVC record. Brady's first goal came at 5:27 and was assisted by Tito Lara. His second tally of the game and team-leading 12th of the season found the net at 79:19 with an assist by Sebastian Falinski. Southern Indiana (10-7-1), which beat Lewis 1-0 in the teams' regular-season meeting in September, cut the deficit in half when Ian Bray (Matt Settles assist) scored at 81:34. Goalkeeper Jordan Gustman made five saves for Lewis, which is aiming for its seventh GLVC crown. |
