ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Joliet Township product Tito Lara scored a goal early in each half Sunday to boost the Lewis men's soccer team to a 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Quincy. Both of Lara's goals were unassisted. His first came at 6:20 and gave the Flyers (3-4-2 overall, 2-1 GLVC) a 1-0 lead. His second of the game and fifth of the season was a direct kick at 49:59. Kevin Vaninger's first goal of the season (Nick Frederickson assist) at 21:43 gave Quincy (2-6-1, 0-3) a 1-1 halftime deadlock. Lewis goalkeeper Jordan Gustman made seven saves, including a spectacular stop on a second-half rocket shot inside the penalty area by Hawks' leading scorer Josh Worth. Quincy outshot Lewis 16-13, including a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. The Flyers host archrival Wisconsin-Parkside Friday at 2:30 p.m. |
