April 26, 2004 ROMEOVILLE - The Lewis University men's golf team has been selected to compete in the 54-hole NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championship May 3-5 at Lassing Pointe Golf Club in Union, Ky. The Flyers, who earlier this month finished second at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship, are one of three GLVC teams in the eight-team field, joining league champion Bellarmine and Northern Kentucky. Grand Valley State, Ferris State, Saginaw Valley State, Wayne State and Findlay of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference round out the field. The winning team, plus the highest-placing golfer who is not a member of the winning team, advances to the NCAA Division II Championship at Victoria Hills Country Club in DeLand, Fla., May 12-15. Lewis is making a second successive Great Lakes Regional appearance following last season's fifth-place finish. GLVC champion Jason Buffone, who carries a 74.77 stroke average, leads the Flyers. Buffone qualified individually for the 2002 regional and tied for sixth place last season. |
