ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University head men's basketball coach Scott Trost has announced the signing of two talented high school players to a National Letter of Intent. Chris McClellan, a 6-foot point guard from Wheeling High School and Matt Toth, a 6-8 post player from Sandburg High School are the first two members of the Flyers' 2008-09 recruiting class. McClellan averaged 14.5 points and 5.7 assists while shooting 84 percent from the free throw line during his junior prep season, his second as a starter. He made the Daily Herald and Pioneer Press all-area first teams and also was Mid-Suburban all-conference. "We are very excited to add someone of Chris' caliber to our roster," Trost said. "He can really shoot the ball, has great court vision and has the moxie that you are looking for in a point guard." Toth averaged 14 points and six rebounds during his junior year at Sandburg. He made the Southwest Suburban all-conference team and was an IBCA All-State honorable mention Toth was selected to all-tournament teams at the Chicago Heights Classic and the Lemont Christmas Classic. He also was voted MVP by his teammates. "We are fortunate to be able to add someone like Matt to our team," Trost said. "He is 6-8, has good skills and can run. He is a versatile player who can play with his back to the basket or face up and shoot the mid-range jump-shot." "Both Matt and Chris are quality young men and good students," Trost added. "We are excited to welcome both of them to the Lewis family. They will be a great fit at Lewis." The Flyers opened their 2007-08 season with a pair of road victories against Lake Superior State and Michigan Tech. The Flyers open their home schedule against Trinity Christian on Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. |
