Nov. 19, 2004 Former Lewis basketball standout Sidney Holmes, the 2004 fourth-round draft choice of the Rockford Lightning of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), has earned a spot on the Lightning's 10-man roster. A 6-foot-6, 230-pound forward, Holmes concluded his collegiate career last season by helping lead Lewis to the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship. He was the 29th of 48 players chosen in the six-round CBA draft and was one of just four players selected who did not play in an NCAA Division I program. Holmes played two seasons at Lewis after transferring from Barat College. In 60 games he averaged 10.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals and shot 57 percent from the field to help the Flyers compile a 47-15 record and make two NCAA Division II Championship tournament appearances. Holmes joins former Flyers Monta McGhee (Denmark), Sarunas Skadas (Lithuania) and Tarrie Monroe (Israel) in the professional ranks. Rockford opens its season Nov. 20.
