MILWAUKEE - Stephan Bolt registered team highs of 10 rebounds and nine points in the Flyers' 88-40 setback against a talented NCAA Division I Marquette squad Wednesday night before a crowd of 12,621 at the Bradley Center. The loss dropped the Flyers' overall record to 7-4, while the Golden Eagles improved to 10-3 in their final tune-up before Big East Conference play. The game's only tie occurred in the opening minutes, as Marquette's first field goal was answered three seconds later by a Bolt jumper. Then the Flyers' offense went cold, missing on their next 10 attempts. The Golden Eagles took advantage, opening a 17-2 lead by the 12:55 mark and building it into a 33-19 halftime edge. The news wasn't any better for the Flyers' offense in the second half, while the Golden Eagles improved from 41.7 to 63.6 percent from the field the rest of the way, including 6-of-9 from 3-point range. Dominic James tallied a game-high 22 points and was one of four Golden Eagles in double-digit points, while Wesley Matthews grabbed a game-high 13 boards. The Flyers continued their sharp free throw shooting, making 7-of-8 from the line. Marquette, held without a free throw in the first half, was 7-of-10 from the stripe. The Golden Eagles controlled the boards 53-33. The Flyers return to action with a home game against Missouri-St. Louis on January 5. |
