CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Stephan Bolt posted team highs of 12 points and seven rebounds Sunday in the Lewis University men's basketball team's 77-50 exhibition loss at Northern Iowa. Brandon Dagans came off the bench to score 11 points, and Pat Monaghan collected 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and four rebounds in the Flyers' second and final exhibition game against an NCAA Division I opponent. Missouri Valley Conference preseason favorite Northern Iowa, which returns all five starters from last year's 21-11 team that reached the NCAA tournament, got 14 points from Eric Coleman, 12 points and seven assists from preseason MVC Player of the Year Ben Jacobson, and eight rebounds from Atila Santos. Bolt (5-of-7 shooting) scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half, and Monaghan scored all 10 of his points following intermission. Those two efforts helped Lewis, which trailed 37-17 at the break, play UNI closer in the second half. The Flyers suffered just seven turnovers and forced 10 UNI miscues, and battled the Panthers to a 14-14 stalemate on the boards, during the final 20 minutes. Dagans, who tallied seven of his 11 points in the first half, was 3-of-4 from the field and 5-of-7 at the foul line. Northern Iowa's 3-point attack was a key in the game. The Panthers connected on 12-of-21 shots (57.1 percent) from beyond the arc. The Flyers open the regular season next Wednesday at home against Trinity Christian. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. |
