Game 2 Box Score & Play-By-Play

QUINCY, Ill. - Kevin Reynolds' 1-out double in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Quincy a 5-4 victory over Lewis and a sweep of Saturday's Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball doubleheader.

In the 7-inning opener, Quincy scored six runs in the second inning and went on to post an 11-3 win.

Adam Mason led off the Quincy ninth with a single. After Kevin Sewell lined out, Andrew O'Donnell pinch ran for Mason and scored the winning run when Reynolds hit the ball into the gap in right center.

Lewis took a 1-0 first-inning lead. Brian Davis led off with a double, moved to third on Brandon Niewinski's sacrifice bunt and scored on Andy Sweet's groundout.

The Flyers broke a 1-1 deadlock in the fifth when Sweet was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Mike Loprieno, who started a 2-out rally with a single.

The Hawks claimed a 3-2 lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Lewis battled back to re-take the lead by scoring twice in the sixth.

Ahren Baranski led off with a single, moved to second on Chris Carbonaro's sacrifice bunt and scored on Mike Smith's single. An infield single by Darryl Jenkins put runners at first and second. Jenkins moved to second when Smith was caught stealing at third and scored on Loprieno's 2-out single.

An unearned run in the bottom of the sixth gave Quincy a 4-4 tie and set the stage for the Hawks (30-24, 20-16 GLVC) to win it in the ninth.

Loprieno had three hits and Davis, Baranski and Jenkins had two hits apiece.

Lewis was limited to three singles by a trio of Quincy pitchers in the opener. The Flyers scored a run in the fourth on Baranski's single and added a pair in the seventh on a fielder's choice by Phil Marchinski and a single by Davis.

The Flyers conclude the season Sunday with another twinbill at Quincy. Starting time is noon.
