AMES, Iowa - Lewis University posted NCAA Division II indoor qualifying marks in three men's events at the Iowa State University Open Friday and Saturday. Pole-vaulter Mark Zilch, already a provisional qualifier for the national indoor meet, registered an automatic qualifying vault of 16-8 ¾. He and teammate Duane Chappell, who qualified automatically earlier this season, tied for first place. J'ean Middleton qualified provisionally and finished fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 48.77. He and Chappell joined Brian Pedersen and Eric McCants to provisionally qualify and finish fourth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:15.98). Kellen Monroe finished fifth in the 60 meters (6.94) and 200 meters (21.97). Also in the top 10 were Prince Ntim in the triple jump (fifth, 46-5 ¼), Jason Klein in the shot put (sixth, 47-7), Andy Tremble in the mile (eighth, 4:25.20), Adrian Myers in the 800 meters (ninth, 1:55.62), Pedersen in the 400 meters (10th, 49.79) and Darren Orange in the mile (10th, 4:26.85). Ashuanta McCormick and Alicia Wiese finished among the top 10 in two events each to pace the Flyer women. McCormick placed second in the 200 meters (24.96) and fifth in the 60 meters (7.71), while Wiese finished seventh in the 20-pound weight throw (49-9) and ninth in the shot put (38-2 ¾). Jenifer Schmidgall was sixth in the long jump (18-6). |
