Aug. 15, 2007 ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Flyers will look to build on their success at last year's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and NCAA Division II Championships by swimming a schedule which features dual meets against three nationally-ranked Division I programs and three programs which finished in the top ten at the NCAA Division II Championships. In addition, the schedule will include a variety of invitational meets, highlighted by the USA Swimming/Toyota Minnesota Grand Prix Meet in November. The women's team opens the season at Division I, Mid-American Conference opponent, the University of Toledo for a second consecutive season on Thursday, October 4. The men and women will travel to Morgantown, W.V., Saturday, October 6, to challenge West Virginia University. The Mountaineers finished the season ranked in the NCAA Division I top twenty, and the men's team is the defending Big East Champion. Following three weeks of solid training, the Flyers will begin a busy November with a double dual meet featuring Division III top twenty, Carthage College, and NAIA top five, Illinois Institute of Technology in Kenosha, WI, on Saturday, November 3. Friday, November 9, through Sunday, November 11, selected Lewis swimmers will travel to Minneapolis, Minn., to compete in the elite USA Swimming/Toyota Minnesota Grand Prix feat. The event is hosted at the University of Minnesota and will feature a format similar to the GLIAC and NCAA Championships. The first home meet of the season is Saturday, November 17, against NCAA Division II top ten and defending GLIAC Champions, rival Wayne State. The first semester will culminate with the TYR/Collegeswimming.com, prelims/finals competition, Friday, November 30, and Saturday, December 1, in Kenosha, Wis.. The Flyers will begin the second semester, Friday, January 4, and Saturday, January 5, competing at the University of Indianapolis Invitational, including GLIAC foes, Grand Valley, Ashland, and Indianapolis. The women will stay in the conference the following week, January 12, when they travel to Michigan to face Hillsdale. Both teams will be on the road January 19, in Kirksville, Mo., to compete against NCAA Division II top ten Truman State. For Senior Day, Friday, January 25, Lewis will entertain its third Division I opponent, Horizon League runner-up, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The final dual meet of the season, February 2, is at NCAA Division II top ten and GLIAC opponent Indianapolis. The championship season will begin early this year with the GLIAC Championships being moved up a week to February 13-16, at the University of Indianapolis. The NCAA Division II Championships will be held March 12-15, with site to be announced in September. |
