CHICAGO, Ill. - Lewis University swimmers finished first in 14 of 22 events to claim a dual-meet victory over Illinois Institute of Technology on Friday.

Seniors Leigh Dodd and Tristine Schmidt and junior Stephanie White-Olson each claimed two of the women's seven first-place finishes. Dodd took first in the 100 backstroke (1:03.92) and the 1000 freestyle (11:13.29), while White-Olson swam fastest in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.26) and the 200 IM (2:18.94). Schmidt raced to first in the 200 and 500 freestyle (2:08.23; 5:32.74).

Senior Michelle Sliva scored the women's other first-place showing in the 100 butterfly (1:02.29).

The women also secured four second-place efforts. Those swims came from freshmen Brigit Bettenhausen and Nicole Marano. Bettenhausen placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.65) and the 200 IM (2:20.50). Marano finished runner-up and was Lewis top finisher in both the 50 and 100 freestyle (26.10; 57.14).

For the men, senior Michael Lapustin and freshman Adam Olszeski each swam to first in two events. Lapustin clocked a 21.70 in the 50 freestyle and 1:01.97 in the 100 breaststroke. Olszeski turned in a 55.53 in the 100 backstroke and a 2:02.72 in the 200 IM.

Senior Jevgenijs Pesins had a first in the 100 butterfly (53.57), junior Adam Brown was first in the 1000 freestyle (10:01.84) and freshman Jason Ament topped the field in the 500 freestyle (4:51.57).

The men also took second in four races. Freshman Jared Zimmer completed two second-place swims, coming in as Lewis' top finisher in both the 100 and 200 freestyle (50.42; 1:48.77). Brown took second in the 500 freestyle (4:51.59), finishing just behind Ament, and Ament was second in the 1000 freestyle (10:22.24), coming in behind Brown.

Lewis returns to action on Saturday, hosting Northern Michigan and Findlay at 1 pm.
