Explorers Drop Match To GW In DC

WASHINGTON, DC - In their last weekend of competition for the 2006 season, the La Salle Explorer volleyball team hit the road to take on the George Washington Colonials at the Smith Center in our nation's capitol. In a math that lasted just over 90 minutes, the Explorers fell 3-0 by scores of 30-26, 30-18, 30-20. La Salle slips to 9-23 overall and 0-12 in the Atlantic 10, while the Colonials improve to 14-11 overall and 6-6 in conference play.

Despite six ties and three lead changes in the first game, the Explorers could not hold on to the lead. La Salle did get a team-high 10 kills from both Christa Dominick and Brittany Hanley. Dominick and Hanley were the only two Explorers to hit over .100 for the game, with Dominick finishing with a .333 (10-2-24) and Hanley with a .222 (10-4-27) hitting percentage. Setter Caitlin Conner assisted on 30 of La Salle's 37 kills and landed one kill in the three-game series.

On defense, libero Carolyn Judge led all players with 21 digs, while Jackie Kushman tallied 17 and Conner contributed 11. At the net on defense, Stephanie Owen tallied a team-best three assisted blocks and Dominick asisted on a pair of her own.

For the Colonials, Abba Greenleaf turned in a match-high performance of 16 kills and Janine Brown posted 11 to lead GW. Setter Kaimana Lee assisted on 41 of the Colonials 50 kills.

On defense, Brown and Stephanie Sharp each finished with a team-best 17 digs and three other GW players finished with double-digit digs. At the net, Kelly Kabbes earned two solo and two assisted blocks, while Abby Syverson stopped one shot solo and assisted on three other blocked shots.

The Explorers will close out the 2006 season on Sunday afternoon when they take on the Charlotte 49ers.
