Hanley Dishes Out 12 Kills in 3-0 Loss to Temple

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle Explorer volleyball team traveled to Temple on Tuesday evening to take on Atlantic 10 leader Temple in their first conference road match-up of the season.  The Explorers fell 3-0 (30-26, 30-20, 30-17) at McGonigle Hall.  With the loss, La Salle now stands at 6-9 (0-3) and the Owls improve to 10-7
(3-0).

The Explorers kicked off the match scoring the first two points, then allowed Temple to get on the board at 2-1.  La Salle then scored the next two to cushion its lead at 4-1.  The Owls got another point, before the Explorers answered with another pair.  Temple called a time out down 6-2.  The result was the same after the mini break, with Temple scoring one point to La Salle's two points.  The Explorers extended their lead to four points at 10-6 and hung on to that lead at 13-9 before a La Salle timeout was called.  Temple eventually tied the match at 14-14 and took the lead for the first time 17-16.  La Salle showed persistence as it reclaimed the lead 21-20 Two plays later, Temple took the lead again at 22-21, this time for good, as they closed out game one 30-26.

Game two started with a battle, trading points early, and La Salle took a two-point lead at 8-6.  The back-and-forth action continued and it was the Owls turn to take the lead at 16-15.  Tied at 16-16, the Owls went on a 10-2 run to bring the score to 26-18, proving too big of a deficit for the Explorers to overcome.  Temple closed out the game with a 30-20 win and 2-0 advantage in the match.

La Salle came out in the third game with a 2-0 lead, the Explorers held tough in the early going, tied with the Owls 9-9.  Temple took the lead with five straigh points to own a 14-9 lead.  La Salle called a timeout and scored the next point, but that rally was short lived as the Owls claimed game three 30-17.

Sophomore Brittany Hanley led the Owls with 12 kills, hitting .222 for the match.  Senior Abby Means matched Hanley's .222 hitting percentage, landing six kills on 18 attempts with two errors.  Freshman Jackie Kushman checked in to two games for the Explorers and tallied four kills and no errors in nine attempts for a .444 percentage.

On defense, libero Carolyn Judgeled all players with 15 digs and Kristen Kelsey added 10 to La Salle's totals.

Temple's Zhen Jia Liu turned in a match-high 15 kills and Yue Liu contributed 12 kills in the Owls' win.  Setter Maira Mogoloon talllied 39 kills for Temple.

On defense, Yue Liu led the team with 12 digs followed by Zhen Jia Liu with 11 and Sun Ying Ling with 10.  At the net, Christina DeMarco posted seven assisted blocks in the match.
