Hextall Named First Team All-Conference

Kristin Hextall and three others honored by the Atlantic 10

PHILADELPHIA - In voting conducted among the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Soccer head coaches, La Salle University's Kristin Hextall has been named First Team All-Conference while three other Explorers have also been honored, the A-10 announced Wednesday.

The senior forward led the conference in both goals scored (15) and points (36), which was also the second-best output ever by an Explorer in the school's history behind only Lisa McDermott's 1987 season of 17 and 42.

She becomes the sixth Explorer ever named A-10 First Team, joining Laura Winchester (1996), Dana Gavaghan (1999), Tracey Spinelli (2000), Amy Schneider (2001) and Jenna Guagenti (2006).


 

 

Other honorees from the conference were junior midfielder Traci DePasquale, senior defender Kim Lisun - each named to the Second Team - and senior Michelle Verzi, who was named to the All-Academic Team.

DePasquale scored 11 goals and added six assists for La Salle in 2007, and combining with Hextall, became the second-best scoring tandem in Explorer history behind McDermott and Meg Cardie's totals of 28 goals and 73 points in the 1987 season. Hextall and DePasquale had 26 goals and 64 points combined.

Lisun, who was an honorable mention All-Conference selection last year, missed six games this season due to injury, which included three A-10 games - La Salle was 0-3 in those contests. She finished the season a goal and two assists.  

Verzi becomes a repeat selection on the A-10's All-Academic Team, joining only former Explorer Shannon Plunkett (2002, 2003) as the only repeat selection. Plunkett was also La Salle's last Academic All-District selection - named to the Second Team in 2002 - something Verzi surpassed this season, as the first Explorer named First Team.

La Salle finished the season 11-9 - the second-most wins ever in the 22-year history of the program - and was 5-6 in the A-10 Conference and in eighth place.
