Guagenti Named First Team All-Conference

PHILADELPHIA - In voting conducted among the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Soccer head coaches, La Salle University's Jenna Guagenti has been named First Team All-Conference while four other Explorers have also been honored, the A-10 announced Wednesday.

The junior defender anchored a defense that had a 0.94 goals allowed average in conference games only, which was the second-best mark, and had an overall 1.15 GAA with five total shutouts.

She contributed on the offensive end as well scoring the game-winning goal at Dayton and registering four assists. Entering the Atlantic 10 Tournament, which begins Thursday, Guagenti is currently riding a three-game point streak.

Only four other Explorers have ever been named to the A-10 Conference's First Team. Those include Laura Winchester (1996), Dana Gavaghan (1999), Tracey Spinelli (2000), and Amy Schneider (2001).

Thanks in part to Guagenti and the rest of the defense, sophomore goalkeeper Amy Grant was named to the All-Conference Second Team. Grant becomes only the second La Salle goalie to be recognized postseason by the A-10, joining Kerry Schamberger, who was also a second team member in 2004.

Grant finished the 2006 regular season with a 7-5-1 record and an A-10 best 0.84 GAA in conference-only matches. She finished with a 0.98 overall GAA, good for second, and had four shutouts, also good for second.

Midfielder Ally Kenney was named to the All-Rookie Team after a season in which the freshman scored two goals, one the game-winner over Charlotte, and added two assists to her totals.

Junior Kim Lisun was an honorable mention All-Conference selection, as the midfielder tallied one goal and had five assists in 2006.

The last recognition for the Explorers was junior defender Michelle Verzi being named to the A-10's All-Academic Team.

La Salle will continue its season Thursday, when they face Fordham at 8:30 pm in the second game of the opening round of the A-10 Tournament, hosted by Saint Louis.
