HUNTINGTON, WV - Taking part in the first annual Green and White Invitational, the La Salle University Women's Soccer team netted two first-half goals and held on to defeat Marshall, 2-1, Friday night at Sam Hood Field.

Sophomore Kristin Hextall (Voorhees, NJ/Bishop Eustace), the team leader in goals last season, scored her first of the 2005 season 15 minutes into the contest, with an assist to freshman Traci DePasquale (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township).

Senior Alexis Petrucci (Abington, PA/Bishop McDevitt) added a second goal to give the Explorers a 2-0 lead in the 30th minute of play off a corner kick from sophomore Shelby Reese (Richboro, PA/Council Rock South).

Marshall (0-4) would cut its deficit in half after getting an unassisted goal from sophomore Kate Heilich with 30 minutes to play, but would never get an equalizer.

The Explorers started freshman Lauren Malizia (Richmond, VA/The Steward School) in net for the second straight contest. She faced 15 shots total, making seven saves while collecting her first collegiate victory.

La Salle (2-4) will square off against Morehead State to open action on the final day of the Invitational, Sunday, September 11. Georgia Southern and Morehead State played to a 0-0 tie in the first game.
