PHILADELPHIA - After tallying five goals Friday night, the La Salle University Women's Soccer team netted four more in a 4-1 victory over Monmouth, Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium, as freshman Alex Conley registered the game-winner just three minutes before the half.

As they did on Friday - when the Explorers opened the game with a goal in the first minute of play - they put the first point on the board this time in the ninth minute. Traci DePasquale took a free kick from the left side of the net about 35 yards out. Her kick sailed in front of the goal, where Kim Lisun poked it past the goalie for her first score this year.

Monmouth (0-1) was able to tie the game at the 32:02 mark when 2006 Northeast Conference Player and Rookie of the Year settled a misplayed ball inside the box and put it in the back of the net for her first of 2007. Last season, she scored 13 goals, added 10 assists, led the Hawks to a 14-4-2 record, and led Monmouth to within one game of the NEC Championship title and an NCAA berth.

It was just before the half when La Salle was able to break the tie with the eventual game-winner. Becky McGuigan played a ball into the midfield to Kristin Hextall, who quickly passed the ball forward to Conley. She dribbled in from the left and beat Monmouth goalie Lia Fierro to the far side for her first collegiate goal.

Twenty minutes after the half, Hextall added the first of two insurance goals for the Explorers, taking a pass from Simone Canfarotta, beating two defenders, and shooting to the right lower 90 for her second goal of the year, 20th of her La Salle career. That now puts her one goal shy of fourth all-time (Linda Madeja, 1989-92, 21) and her 52 career points is just one off of sixth all-time (Meg Cardie, 1987-90, 53).

With less than two minutes to play, Dana Giordano added another goal - her third of the young season - when she took a corner kick with 1:08 left on the clock. The bender was deflected by the goalie into the net giving the Explorers the 4-1 victory.

Getting the win in the net for the Explorers was Lauren Malizia, who faced 10 shots, and made four saves, while Fierro made five saves in the losing effort.

The Explorers have now tallied nine goals in the first two games of the season, marking the most to start a season in the program's 22-year history (the previous best was eight twice - 2002 and 1999). This also marks only the third time that La Salle has started a season 2-0 (2002, 2000, 1997) and only three squads (2000 - 3-0; 1997 - 3-0; and 1995 - 2-0-1) have been unbeaten after three matches.

La Salle (2-0) will be on the road for its next two matches, first traveling to Milwaukee, WI to take on the 2-0 Marquette Golden Eagles, ranked #30 in the preseason SoccerBuzz poll, on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 8 PM EST. On Saturday, Sept. 8, at 2 PM EST, they will face Loyola in Chicago, IL.
