George Washington's 4 Second Half Goals Defeat Explorers
Philadelphia, PA - The La Salle Men's Soccer team fell to George Washington 4-1 at Mount Vernon Field in Washington D.C. despite an early lead off of freshman Jeff Spiker's (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) goal. The Colonials scored four second half goals to keep their postseason hopes alive. La Salle (4-11-3, 2-8-0) jumped ahead of GW just six minutes into the match when Spiker snuck a soft shot into the net past Colonial keeper sophomore Derek Biss (Pittsfield, MA/Northfield Mt. Hermon). The Explorers were out-shot 13-5 in the first half, but managed to maintain the 1-0 lead going into the locker room at halftime. Goerge Washington's third goal which came in just a six-minute span saw Johannsson serving the ball up the middle of the field which was advanced toward the goal attempting to play it back to the keeper Stash Graham (Tampa, FL/Jesuit). Andrade would beat Graham to the ball, and touched it past the sprawling keeper for his second unassisted score of the match. Graham recorded eight saves in a game where the Colonials out-shot the Explorers 29-9. With the win, GW (7-10-1, 5-4-1) remained tied for fifth place in the Atlantic 10 with Rhode Island and Massachusetts who both won today. The Explorers will play their season finale this Saturday, November 8th at Fordham at 1:00 p.m.
