Ortiz Goals Lift La Salle Over Dayton
Posted by: Shawn Sweeney DAYTON, OH - La Salle sophomore Jeremy Ortiz (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) scored a pair of goals to propel the Explorers (4-5-3, 1-0-1 A-10) past the Dayton Flyers (5-4-1, 1-1-0 A-10) by a score of 2-1. Ortiz netted his first goal in the 54th minute when the ball was tapped into the box and he got a shot off on the lower left side that went past Dayton goalkeeper Steve Ladislaw. Ortiz was assisted by Mike Lehr (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) and Geoff Schaeffer (Blackwood, NJ/Highland Regional). The Flyers answered back in the 85th minute when Dasan Robinson put a ball past La Salle keeper Andrew Bernhard (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) . With the clock ticking toward yet another overtime for the Explorers, Ortiz struck again with just under two minutes left to play. He unloaded a shot that deflected off a Dayton defender and into the net to give La Salle the win. Bernhard stopped nine shots on his way to securing the Explorer victory. Ladislaw made two saves in a losing effort. Dayton outshot La Salle by a 22-8 margin. The Explorers will return home to 20th and Olney to host city-rival Temple on Friday, Oct. 14 at 3:00 p.m. |
