Fairfield, CT - The Sacred Heart Universty Pioneers (2-0) used an all-around solid effort to defeat the La Salle University Explorers (0-2) on Saturday afternoon at Campus Field en route to a 54-14 win.

 

Redshirt Freshman quarterback Dale Fink commanded a Pioneer offense that gained 501 total yards against the Explorers total of 192.  Fink went 8 for 9 passing on the afternoon for 122 yards and 3 scores.  He hit Corey Bundy once and Joey Henley two times for touchdown strikes.  Running backs Evin Jones, Jason Pane and Ed Gurrieri combined for 319 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground for Sacred Heart.

 

La Salle showed offensive improvement near the start of the second quarter when junior quarterback Chris Hanson (Southampton, PA - Archbishop Wood) scrambled into the endzone from seven yards out, and Anthony Perlozzo (Ocean City, MD - Stephen Decatur) added the extra point.  Hanson went 8 of 14 on the day for 127 yards through the air, and gained 40 yards on the ground for the Explorers.  Freshman running back Rayvon Williams (Accokeek, MD - Bishop McNamara) scored on a 5-yard TD run late in the third quarter to finish the scoring for La Salle.


 

 

 

After a week off the Explorers will return to action at McCarthy Stadium on Friday, September 21st in a 7:30 match-up against The College of New Jersey.
