Explorer Gridders Participate in Regional Combine

April 4, 2007

PHILADELPHIA, PA - La Salle University  football players Lou Russo (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Kevin Sullivan (Nanuet, NY/St. Joseph's-Montvale) participated in the Pro Day combine event hosted by Villanova on March 23rd.

Russo, a multiple pass-catching La Salle record holder, and Sullivan were among the best players in the northeast to receive an invitation to the event and have their skills evaluated by NFL Scouts.

"It was a once in a lifetime experience," said Russo, who was evaluated by over representative from more than ten NFL teams including the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49'ers, Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints.

"I was extremely proud to be representing my team, coaching staff, and La Salle University.  I will remember this opportunity for the rest of my life."

According to La Salle head coach Tim Miller both Russo and teammate Sullivan, who has been a four-year stalwart running and receiving out of the Explorer backfield in the form of Villanova and Eagles' great Brian Westbrook,  performed well in front of the contingent of NFL representatives.

"Both Lou and Kevin are exceptional athletes, young men and representatives of La Salle University.  This opportunity for them was a great chance to show people outside of our school and conference what they are all about and what kind of talent we can produce at
La Salle University," said Miller.  "We are excited about their participation in this event and feel it is a good indication of where we see La Salle football heading in the near future.

Russo finished his career with a school-record 160 career receptions and set a single-season high for receptions with 71.   Sullivan was a 2006 All-American selection as an all-purpose player by Don Hansen's Football Gazette and was named first-team All-MAAC.
