Richmond, VA—Head Coach John Giannini won the 300th game of his career as the La Salle Explorers went on the road to beat Richmond, 76-68, at the Robins Center. Steven Smith (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast) led the Explorers (7-14) with 22 points on 9-19 shooting, including several athletic dunks and putbacks. Jermaine Thomas (Frederick, MD/Thomas Johnson) added 17 points and Mike St. John (Northboro, MA/River School) registered his second career double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Trailing 22-15 midway through the first half, the Explorers went on a 23-12 run to lead, 38-34, at halftime. They followed that win an 11-0 run in the second period and Richmond never got closer than three.
It was La Salle’s second win in a row and first in Richmond since 1958. Entering the game, the Spiders had won five straight.
The Explorers will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 12th when they host Dayton at Tom Gola Arena. Tip is scheduled for 4:05 P.M..
