![]() Explorers Fall Badly At Temple; 89-64
Philadelphia, PA - After trading leads eight times in the first nine minutes of play the Temple Owls (9-12, 3-5, 1-3 Big 5) went on a 22-4 run and never looked back in capturing as 89-64 win over the La Salle Explorers (9-14, 2-6, 0-3 Big 5) in Atlantic 10 play on Sunday afternoon at the Liacouras Center.
With the game tied at 20-20 with 11:10 left in the first half Dustin Salisbery hit one of his five three-pointers to start the Owl run. The Explorers allowed 15 more points than they had in any first half of the season and trailed 56-33 at halftime. Sherman Diaz' (Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago/Life Center) made a lay-up with 9:56 to play but turnovers on three consecutive possesions led to a lay-up and a pair or rim-rattling dunks from the Owls' Mark Tyndale to squelch any Explorer hopes of crawling back into the game. The six points were among 25 scored by Temple in the fast break. Freshman Kimmani Barrett (Paterson, NJ/Paterson Catholic) and Rodney Green (Philadelphia, PA/Prep Charter) each had a dozen points to lead the Explorers. The Explorers turned the ball over ten more times than the Owls leading to 22 Temple points. The 25 point loss marked the Explorers largest margin of defeat this season. The Explorers and Owls square off again on February 14th at 7:00 PM at Tom Gola Arena.
Next up will be a rematch with Duquesne on Wednesday night at Tom Gola Arena with tip-off at 7:00 PM. The Explorers handed the Dukes a 79-63 defeat in Pittsburgh on January 10th.
