Lady Cards Hold On FOr 3-1 Win Over Lady Lions

HAMMOND, La. - After dropping game one of their match against Southeastern Louisiana, the Lamar University volleyball team turned the tide on the Lady Lions, grabbing a 3-1 win at the University Center in Hammond, La.

The Lady Cards bounced back from a 30-28 loss in game one, by racing out to 30-20 and 30-19 wins in games two and three to take a two games to one advantage.

Game three saw the two teams battle back and forth until the end, with LU edging Southeastern 32-30 to improve to 4-1 in Southland Conference play and 8-12 overall. The Lady Lions fall to 4-15 overall and 0-5 in SLC play with the loss.

The Lady Cardinals were led offensively Buchi Okoh who knocked down 20 kills with a .342 hitting percentage and five blocks. Lamar also received a big match by freshman Kaci Brewer who pounded out 13 kills and nine digs, while Courtney Mitchell added 11 kills and four blocks in the win.

The LU defense was led by Andrea Hamilton's 16 digs, while Alex Brink and Ariel Drake added 14 digs apiece. Adrianne Meengs and Ashley Todd each posted double digit assists in the match, passing out 34 and 13 respectively.

The Lady Lions offense was led by Brittany Pomes and Lauren Mayer who knocked down 12 and 10 kills respectively, while Maddie Beebe dished out 47 assists.

The Lady Cardinals will be in action again next Friday, October 13, when they take on the Texas State Bobcats in San Marcos at 7 p.m.
