Graham Earns SLC Athlete of the Week Honors

Jan. 23, 2007

BEAUMONT - After breaking the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitation record in the 5,000 meter run on Friday, Lamar's Renee Graham was named Southland Conference Aeropostale Track and Field Athlete of the week.

This is the second week in a row for an LU women's runner to be named Aeropostale Track and Field Athlete of the Week, as Clerc Koenck earned the honor last week. Francis Kasagule of the men's team was also honored last week.

Graham, a native of Hawera, New Zealand, grabbed a first place finish and set a new Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational record in the women's 5,000 meter run, with a 17:25.49 performance. She broke the record of 17:26.79 set by Katherine Gorry of Rice University in 2006.

This is the second time in her career that Graham, a junior, has earned athlete of the week honors. She earned cross country runner of the week honors on October 25, 2005 after a dominating performance at the Northwestern State All Comers meet.

Graham and the Cardinals will be back on the track when they run at the Terrier Invitation in Boston, Mass. Saturday.
