Lady Cards Tennis Falls to SELA 7-0
March 24, 2007 HAMMOND, La. - The Lamar University women's team dropped their first Southland Conference match of the season on Saturday, falling 7-0 to the No. 59 Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions in Hammond, La. Playing shorthanded, the Lady Cards were unable to overcome Southeastern who improved to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in SLC play with the win. Lamar falls to 8-6 overall and 3-1 in SLC play with the loss. In singles play Emilija Arnaudovska defeated LU's Kaltrina Harbuzi when Harbuzi retired after the first set at No. 1, Iva Velkovska knocked out Maria Gutierrez 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 and Breda Kovac took down Pamela Martinez 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3. Jana Simurkova outlasted Manijee Ashrafi 2-6, 6-2, 10-5 at No. 4 and Bonnie Phillips took down Manami Kuroda 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5. The match at No. 6 was defaulted to Southeastern. In doubles play Nina Knavs and Kovac def. Martinez and Ashrafi 8-5 and Arnaudovska and Velkovska defeated Gutierrez and Harbuzi 9-7. The Lady Cardinals will be in action again on Sunday, when they take on Nicholls State at 10 a.m. Tennis Match Results Singles competition
