Casey Cain, who was a four-year letterwinner for the Lady Cardinals from 2002-05, was named assistant coach in June of 2006. She served as a student assistant coach last season while completing her undergraduate degree in psychology and is currently working on a masters degree. In her new role with the Lamar golf program, Cain will work primarily with the women's team. This will include organizing team travel and taking to the team to tournaments, setting up practice schedules and working with the players on their golf game-swing, putting and course management, and serving as the acadamic liaison. Cain was named first-team All-Southland Conference three straight years (2003-05) and earned second-team all-SLC honors as a freshman in 2002. She is one of only two golfers in SLC history to be named first-team all-SLC three times. Cain was also an Academic All-SLC selection in 2004 and 2005, and was named SLC Student-Athlete of the Year for women's golf in 2005. She was named CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI in 2005. A native of Lumberton, Cain led the Lady Cardinals in scoring average three-straight seasons from 2003-05. As a senior, she posted three Top 5 finishes, including winning medalist honors at the Sam Houston/Waterwood Fall Classic. She posted six Top 10 finishes in the spring, including winning medalist honors at the Lamar Lady Cardinal Invitational and the Centenary Ladies Invitational. She posted a 77.35 scoring average for the season. Cain helped Lamar win its first-ever SLC title in 2003 and its second SLC crown in 2005. As a student assistant last season, she helped Lamar win its second straight and third overall SLC title. |
