BEAUMONT - Following a 104-point explosion on Wednesday night, the Lamar Lady Cardinals hope to start their second winning streak of the season on Saturday afternoon when they host Centenary College in a 2 p.m. non-conference matinee at the Montagne Center. Lamar carries an overall record of 4-2 into the game, while Centenary enters the weekend with a 1-6 mark for the season. The Lady Cardinals are a perfect 2-0 all-time against Centenary. Both meetings came during the 1999-2000 season, as Lamar posted an 81-44 win in Beaumont and a 58-47 victory in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Lady Cards snapped a short-lived, two-game losing streak with their 104-57 blitzing of LeTourneau on Wednesday. The 104-point outburst was the highest point total of the season by a Southland Conference team and it was the most points scored by a Lady Cardinal team since the 1995-96 season. In the game, five LU players reached double figures led by junior Audrea Samuel with 17 points, after coming off the bench. Freshman Chelsea Gugliotta added a career-high 14 points in only 12 minutes and fellow rookie Jana Mustard chipped in with career-highs in points (10) and rebounds (8), all in 11 minutes of action during the second half. Sophomore LaToya Carson continues to lead the team and rank 10th in the SLC in scoring (11.5 ppg), while Gugliotta maintains her role as the team's leading rebounder (6.2 rpg). She also ranks fourth in the SLC in field goal percentage (54.3). Freshman Aida Bakhos has emerged with the team lead in assists (19), after dishing out a career-high seven in the LeTourneau game, placing her fifth (3.17) among the league leaders. Samuel ranks 15th in the league in scoring (10.5) and fourth in blocked shots (1.5). As a team, Lamar continues to lead the conference in scoring defense (53.5), scoring margin (+17.8), field goal percentage (42.1), field goal percentage defense (28.8), three-point field goal defense (23.5), rebounding (54.5) and rebounding margin (+16.5). The Lady Cards are also second in scoring (71.3) and steals (13.3). Centenary has lost six straight after opening the season with a 96-66 win over LeTourneau in Shreveport, Louisiana. In their last game, the Ladies dropped a 52-48 decision at home against Arkansas-Little Rock. CC is led by Laura Kizyte with 15.6 points per game. She also ranks second on the squad with 6.6 rebounds and 15 assists. Holli Wilkins, the team's leading three-point shooter, ranks second on the team in scoring with 9.7 points per game. She also leads the team in assists (16) and steals (15), while toting a 44.4 three-point percentage. The Ladies average 56.1 points and yield 67.9 points to opponents. Centenary also carries identical 42.2 field goal and three-point percentages as a team. Saturday's game will be part of a non-traditional men's and women's double header, as the Lamar men play at 7 p.m. against Arkansas Tech following the women's afternoon contest. All fans who buy a ticket to attend the women's game will receive one free admission to the men's contest later that evening.
