Lamar Women Travel to McNeese for 1 p.m. Showdown

LAKE CHARLES, La. - After dropping an 85-81 overtime heartbreaker to Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Thursday night, the Lamar University women's basketball will try to rebound on Saturday when they take on the McNeese State Cowgirls at 1 p.m. at Burton Coliseum.

Lamar and McNeese State will meet for the second time this season when they hook up. The Lady Cardinals enter the game with an 11-15 overall record and a 6-7 Southland Conference record. McNeese is seeking their first conference win of the season, as they enter the game with a 0-13 record in conference play.

The Lady Cardinals are led by senior Dionne Pounds who is averaging 16.2 points per game, while freshman Brittney Williams is averaging 14.7 points and a team-high 7.8 rebounds. LaToya Carson has also been solid offensively, averaging 14.1 points per game, while Alexis Timpone has chipped in with 7.6 points per game.

In conference play Pounds is averaging 17.6 points a game while Williams is averaging 17.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, while Carson is averaging 13.9 points and seven boards per contest.

As a team the Lady Cards are averaging 64.8 points per contest, while shooting .422 from the field. Lamar is shooting at a .373 average from behind the three point arc, and is shooting .695 from the free throw line. They have also out rebounded their opponents 38.3 to 37.8 per game.

After Saturday's game the lady Cardinals will host their final home game of the season Thursday at 7 p.m. when they take on the Nicholls State Lady Colonels at the Montagne Center.
