David Manley is in his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Lamar women's basketball program. Prior to joining head coach Leonard Drake's staff, Manley spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the LU men's basketball team. Manley, who was the film exchange coordinator, broke down game film and served as the program's academic liaison for former men's head coach Mike Deane. Manley helped the Cardinals to a fourth-place finish in the Southland Conference during the 2001-02 season. With the women's team, Manley serves as the recruiting coordinator and he also assists with the scheduling duties of the women's basketball program. "Dave brings continuity to the staff from our days of working together on the men's staff," Drake said of Manley. "Dave has solid recruiting contacts in the state of Texas, especially in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, because he has coached at Ranger and Cisco junior colleges." Manley came to Lamar after serving as the assistant men's coach at Cisco Junior College from 1997-2000. Prior to that, Manley served as the head women's basketball coach at Ranger Junior College from 1995-97. He compiled a two-year record of 26-32 after inheriting a team that won just two games the year prior to taking over the program. The team maintained a 3.0 grade point average both seasons and five players received scholarships to four-year institutions. He started his coaching career as an assistant at Cisco JC from 1991-95. In addition to serving as a men's basketball assistant, he was also a women's basketball assistant from 1993-95 and was the gymnasium supervisor. Manley was instrumental in recruiting many of the players that produced a two-year record of 44-14, two regional tournament berths and a top 20 national ranking for the women's program. Manley, who was a four-sport letterman at Bryson (TX) High School, graduated with honors with an applied arts and sciences degree at Lamar in May of 2001. |
